I do find myself wondering from time to time if people lack happiness because they feel they don’t deserve it.

It’s not unlike the surprise birthday party thrown for the gent that hates surprise birthday parties. He’ll laugh and carry on but behind his drunk smiling face he’s wrestling with a nasty question — why do all these people care so much about me?

Folks lacking happiness are the same folks who hate surprises — deep down they feel they’re a luxury they don’t deserve.
