We cannot, under any circumstance, hate our past loves. We can walk away. We can wish it had all turned out different. We can hurt. We can cry. We can smile. We can be relieved it’s over. We can learn (most importantly we can learn). But we cannot, under any circumstance, hate them. Our past loves show us how to love and sometimes they show us how not to love and regardless we must be extraordinarily thankful for them. Love is the only energy in this world that is infinite. The love you’ll one day show your person isn’t just your love. It’s a collection or a cultivation, rather, of the love you were shown (be it good or bad) by those who came before him or her. And, in this writer’s fucked up head, that’s one of the most beautiful aspects about being human and loving — that we can love someone fiercely and that they can then take the lessons and the feelings and the good and the bad of our love and repurpose it to love someone else, harder.
