Inspiration is a pretty bitch. She will show up when you least expect her to with a couple bottles of red wine and a pack of cigarettes. She will blow you away with her taste in music, poetically running her matte black fingernails along the spines of your vinyl.
She’ll throw on a record and fuck you good and keep you up all night long with delicious conversation. But, there is a double edge sword to her pretty and this is why you can’t make a career out of her. She’s unreliable. She won’t pick up the phone when you call. She won’t send you love letters. Half the time, you won’t know if you’ll ever see her again.
And, so, to creatives looking to make money in this game. I give this piece of advice… when inspiration shows up late at night on your doorstep run wild with her. But, don’t for a moment rely on her. If you rely on her you’ll go broke.
Consistency, well that’s a different story entirely. She’ll love you harder than you’ve ever been loved before. But, you have to stay committed to her. You have to show up when you say you’re going to show up. You have to call when you say you’re going to call. You have to love her. You have to be loyal to her. Consistency makes a creative.

P.S. One day these one minute writings will be a big book called “One Minute, Please.” Can I let you know when that day comes? You can say yes, here.
