The reason most people struggle to be honest with other people is because they struggle to be honest with themselves. The scariest demon in the world to face is our own authentic selves — the truth we see at night when our heads hit our pillows or on Sundays when the world is too slow to distract us from our own thoughts. It’s in these vulnerable moments that we string together brilliant fabricated lies in the form of stories in hopes to escape our truths. And, what’s worse is that the stories work. We’re able to lie to ourselves without realizing we’re lying to ourselves. Much of our lives are fiction — fiction of our own creation.
